Mangroves characterize the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. They have been now classified as wetland ecosystems. However, they are certainly different from fresh water wetland ecosystems. Mangroves constitute unique ecosystem of coastal region bridging fresh water and marine life. In india they occupy both, east and west coasts.
